The release of Portishead’s debut album in August 1994 had an enormous impact on the UK down-tempo scene. Innovative production techniques, and haunting lyrics characterised their distinctively melancholic groove, and helped define the emerging ‘trip-hop’ genre. Received internationally with critical acclaim, this disc remains a personal favourite of many modern collectors.
